Wiggio blog is back, baby!

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Users, fans, and friends of Wiggio:

We have done a TERRIBLE job of blogging.  Period.  For this, we apologize.

We have been incredibly focused on building the Wiggio application, and have done a poor job of keeping you updated on what’s to come, including additions to the feature set, shortcuts, bug fixes, etc.  Many of you have also expressed interest in learning about how others are using Wiggio, as well as in the team behind the product.

From here on out, this blog will be used to frequently update and communicate with our users.  Please let us know if there are specific topics you find most interesting or particularly want to learn more about.

Thank you, and stay tuned….

Dana and the Wiggio Team

Reach out… we’re here to help!

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Hello from the Wiggio Customer Service Team:

Do you ever have a problem logging in? Really want a new feature? Can’t figure out how to get a screen share working? We can help!

We pride ourselves on having the best customer service in the industry. Our goal is to get back to all users within the same day and we usually get back within an hour if not within a few minutes. I’m sure some of our users can attest to the 11pm email conversations or responses within a couple minutes.

We love to hear from users. We’ve been doing this for over a year now and feel like we’ve become friends with some of our users who email everyday with feedback, stories and problems.

We also love suggestions. If you’ve checked out some of the recent changes to the site, most have been because of your feedback. We now have Virtual Meetings which lets groups have a live video/audio conference with screen-sharing, whiteboarding, and real-time file exchange. Links can now be organized in the Folder section. Soon we’ll be adding a To-Do list to help groups keep track of who’s doing what within a project. We get hundreds of suggestions and comments from users each day, and we read and discuss each one individually.

If you ever have any problems or just want to say what’s up, shoot us an email at feedback@wiggio.com or click the purple Feedback box on the bottom left of your screen.

Thanks for using Wiggio and can’t wait to hear from you!

Press Release: Wiggio partners with Social Grow

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

September 29, 2009 - BOSTON, Mass. ─ Wiggio (http://www.wiggio.com), creators of popular web-based group collaboration software, today announced their selection of software, consulting, and professional services company SocialGrow (http://www.socialgrow.com), as the beta commercial customer for their flagship software application.

“Wiggio is providing SocialGrow with their online collaboration platform to enable us to communicate more effectively with remote team members, archive critical e-mail conversations, and provide a single, secure repository for all text, image, and video documents to help us quickly grow our new company” said SocialGrow President and Co-Founder Marsh Sutherland.

Wiggio President Dana Lampert stated, “SocialGrow is providing Wiggio with real-time user feedback, and suggestions for new feature/functionality to improve the application and our service overall.” Lampert went on to say, “Wiggio was originally built to support collaboration among student teams in an academic environment, yet we’ve seen major adoption among small companies and non-profits. With SocialGrow as our beta commercial client, Wiggio will be able to quickly add features which support other startups and small businesses to collaborate effectively and work productively, regardless of team members’ physical locations.”

SocialGrow’s Sutherland further said “by using Wiggio to collaborate online, and keep one set of documents in a single repository, SocialGrow gives us the benefit of automated version control for all of our business documents. We simply cc: our Wiggio e-mail address to archive e-mails for future use. It could not be easier!”
Wiggio’s Lampert concluded by saying “Wiggio makes it easy for SocialGrow’s employees to keep each other up-to-date in real-time, without having to interrupt their work flows.”

New feature update, with more to come…

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Hey Wiggioers,

Just wanted to update you on some new features that are now on the site.  You can now take advantage of:

  • Syncing from your Wiggio Calendar to your Google, Yahoo!, Outlook or Apple calendar.
  • Sub-folders within your group’s main Folder.
  • Permission settings - allow group admins to set which features members can use (i.e. in my club, only admins should have the ability to send mass text messages and add events to the Calendar).
  • Registration - when you invite people to your group, they no longer have to register to use Wiggio.  They just click the invitation link in the email and they’re taken directly into the group.  You can start interacting with new group members as soon as you invite them.
  • Recurring events on the Calendar.

We have been growing fast, and have you to thank.  Please continue telling your friends and family about Wiggio, and feel free to create groups for all the groups you’re in, ranging from old high school friends to study groups, extended family, sports leagues, clubs, committees, and more.

We are working hard to develop a slew of new features and enhancements that you have asked for, including a group list-serv, a simple to-do list, enhanced scheduling tools, threads on the comment board, instant messaging, video embeds and more.

Please stay tuned, and thanks for using Wiggio!

UPDATE: 120 schools and climbing…

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Five days after launching, Wiggio now has members at over 120 colleges and multiple high schools.  The following are just some examples of the groups we see forming on Wiggio:

COLLEGE: clubs (everything from entrepreneurship associations, honor societies and political groups to belly dancing clubs and homecoming committees), academic project groups, TA sections, dorm floors (RAs make the groups), acapella groups, student governments, social cliques, intramural sports teams, fraternities/sororities.

OUTSIDE COLLEGE: charities/non-profit groups, religious committees, parents of students and PTAs, youth sport leagues, groups planning an event, high school groups (class projects, sports teams, extracurricular clubs).

Thanks for the suggestions that we’ve been receiving at feedback@wiggio.com, and please keep the great ideas coming!

Wiggio 1.0… nearly complete!

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Just a heads up– we have been working all summer on adding to the Wiggio functionality and improving the UI and overall site usabilty.  Up until now, we have kept these major changes internal, and have been testing like crazy to work out the kinks and continue to improve the site.  Very shortly, we will be syncing all the new changes to the live site (www.wiggio.com).

Thank you to all our testers who have been hammering away on the site this summer..  When we release the real Wiggio 1.0 this week, we encourage you to continue sending your detailed feedback and suggestions to feedback@wiggio.com– we take your comments very seriously, and really appreciate your insights.

Keep an eye out for the sync, and we hope you like what you see…

Meetings is Live!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Another week has gone by, and another function is live on Wiggio.  The last of the major features, Meetings, is now up and running.  Meetings allows you to “meet” with your group members without having to leave your bedroom.  Groups can set up free conference calls and group chatrooms.  The conference calling is powered by an awesome service called Rondee.  If you’re in an organization that does a good deal of conference calling, check out their service, as they offer some great advanced features on top of the conference calling (www.rondee.com).

Next up, we are adding administrative functions, and revamping the Calendar (based on your feedback!).  Stay tuned…

Wiggio hits Silicon Valley

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

When Dana and I decided to pursue Wiggio full-time, no one told us we were taking the easy route. This past Friday was the 4th of July, which meant that the Wiggio team took its first weekday off since starting in January.

We decided that if this was going to be a short week, that we better find a way to pack five days of work into four. On Monday evening, we flew out to California for a Cornell entrepreneurship conference. The conference was hosted by an incubator called Plug and Play in Sunnyvale, CA.

During the day we took the Cal Train to San Francisco for a lunch meeting. It was a very different transit experience than what I was used to from growing up in New York! Dana and I did work on the train and spoke to a few passengers. We were starting to learn that there is a different lifestyle culture on the West coast than the East coast. People seemed more laid back, interested in tech, and more focused on “a balanced life.”

On Tuesday night we went to the conference. We were very lucky to have Wiggio selected as one of seven companies to pitch to a conference of 140 people. Mostly Cornell grads, the audience was composed of other entrepreneurs, angels, and VCs. Dana and I were a little intimidated to present in front of such a large crowd, but we were told afterwards from some of the VCs that they were very impressed by our presentation.

After our pitch, a huge networking event began. We connected with some potential investors and met with some interesting entrepreneurs. While catching up with Matt Ackerson, the founder of Scrimple, we met a Cornell rising senior, Christina Garcia who is interning at Google for the summer. She offered to take us to the Google headquarters in Mountainview, CA the next day.

The Google campus is just like the articles and blogs depict it. Unlimited free food for everyone! Dana, Matt, and I were welcomed with a selection of Naked juices. The whole place feels like a college campus, except you don’t have to pay for anything and much more is taken care of for you. Imagine several outdoor patio areas, people playing volleyball and doing yoga. There are on-campus laundry machines, dry cleaning, and babysitting. The workplace atmosphere is very relaxed. People dress casually. Everyone wears t-shirts and shorts, so Dana and I were incredibly out of place in business casual attire. Someone even asked me if I was there for an interview.

After a quick tour we were treated to lunch. Everything was fresh and prepared to order. This was a huge upgrade from a college dining hall. It was more like a buffet at a nice hotel. At lunch we met the intern class and I was impressed by bright, personable, interesting interns. Very similar to what I would have expected. I guess with all of the perks, Google isn’t having trouble recruiting.

After lunch we visited the whole-made ice cream bar, the game room with pinball, wii, and Play Station (fully stocked with Rock Band). We left wondering how we could tailor Wiggio headquarters to be more like the Mountain View campus.

In the afternoon after leaving Google, we were fortunate to get to meet with the company we are partnering with to support our free conference call feature. The company is called Rondee and they are based out of Silicon Valley, only 10 minutes from where we were in Sunnyvale. We felt very lucky to meet with the founder, Andre Vanier. He came to meet us, further discussed the technology infrastructure for the partnership, and even drove us to the airport. What a bright guy-a BA, JD, and MBA from Stanford. That couldn’t be easy. He had tremendous ideas for how to help grow our business.

We are just beginning to learn about the amazing culture of entrepreneurship. People feel naturally inclined to help each other. Dana and I are only 22, have been working on Wiggio for seven months now, and so many people have gone out of their way to help support us. Dan Cohen from the Cornell E-Lab and John Jaquette from Entrepreneurship@Cornell helped brainstorm ways to even get us out to California for this trip. Entrepreneurship@Cornell ended up helping to subsidize airfare. We are so grateful for all of the help we have received, but particularly the support we have consistently received from Cornell as an institution.

Now that we’re back from the 4th, we are gearing up for another exciting week. We are reaching out to student leaders and staff members in Residential Life at some of our target schools to teach them about Wiggio and how it could help them to organize their dorm floors. At the end of the week we’re on the road again, going to New York for three meetings with Cornell alums who have offered to give us some advice on the project.
